Rabbish Rahli Sadri Dua in English:
“My Lord! Open my heart, and make my task easy for me, loosen the knot in my tongue, so that they may understand my speech.” (20:25-29)
Background of This Dua
In Surah Taha (25-28) and Surah As Shaura (26:10), Allah talks about giving Musa (a.s) the heavy task of talking to the pharaoh and convincing him to leave his corruption and submit to one God.
Pharaoh lived in Egypt, and Musa (a.s) was wanted there. He was charged with murdering someone. Also, according to some scholars, he had a stammering problem. It was indeed a difficult task for him.
In the midst of self-doubt and insecurities, He asked Allah with the words of this dua, “Rabbish rahli Sadri wa yassirli amri wah lul uqdatan min lisaani yafkahu kauli.”
In the Holy Quran, Allah beautifully acknowledges his feelings, gives him firmness of heart and consoles him by saying that Allah will be listening to him there.
After this dua, Musa (a.s) went to the pharaoh’s court with Haroon (a.s), and he spoke without any difficulty and surprised the people and magicians gathered there.
This dua tells us that nothing is impossible if Allah is with you. If you ask Allah sincerely, He removes your problems and makes you win when you know you won’t.
The Meaning of this Dua:
In this dua, Musa (a.s) asked Allah for four things.
- He asked for “Opening his heart“, which means he wanted to gain focus and calmness
- He asked Allah to “Make his task easy“, which means he wanted to speak clearly without distractions or hurdles
- He asked for “Untying the knot of his tongue“, which tells us that he wanted to speak fluently without getting confused
- Lastly, he asked Allah for “People to understand his speech.“

Rabbish Rahli Sadri Dua Benefits:
1. Increase Confidence
This dua is best to boost your confidence level. What is confidence anyway? It’s the acceptance of your abilities and qualities. It’s your belief in yourself and your ability to speak without fear of something. Musa (a.s) recited it to gain confidence for public speaking.
2. Improve Focus
It also helps you improve your focus. People who are less confident often forget everything in the middle of a speech, interview or conversation. That is because of focus issues. The phrase of “Rabbish rahli sadri dua means “Oh my Lord! open my heart” so that I can be focused on my speech.
3. Reduce Nervousness and Anxiety
Nervousness and anxiety are caused by low-self esteem and lack of confidence. This dua helps you attain calmness and peace of heart, which removes your nervousness and anxiety in no time.
4. Help With Completion of Any Task

5. Help With Clear Speech
This dua helps you make a clear speech. Clear speech is your ability to speak in simple and clear words. When you’re in a confused state, your speech goes all over the place, and nothing makes sense. This dua can help you with this issue.
6. Help Making Impactful Speech
It also helps you in making an impactful speech, a speech that inspires people. Sometimes your speech/lecture is in clear words, but it has no barakah. It doesn’t really change or encourage people. Musa (a.s)’s speech made the magicians bow down to Allah in complete awe.
7. Best for Exams
Although this dua is mainly for increasing confidence, it can also be used for exam success. You can recite this dua before writing your exam paper. It can help you write clearly, which make your points understandable for your examiner.
